Why BJJ
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is excellent for anyone looking to attain optimal physical conditioning and confidence. It is essential for anyone wanting to be a well rounded fighter. This art teaches you how to defeat an opponent, even a physically larger and stronger one, using leverage and technique instead of strength. At Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Olympia we offer numerous programs for everyone: we focus on learning the technical skills of the art and applying these in an intense, supportive environment.
Exercise/Conditioning
Because Jiu-Jitsu incorporates every muscle group in your body and requires that you use these in the realistic and intense application of technique, you will lose unnecessary weight, become stronger, more flexible, and more cardiovascurarily fit. You will get in the best shape of your life.
Competition/Fighting
If you are or are planning to be a fighter in a ring, cage, or simply for self defense and confidence, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu simply must be at the core of your training regimen. Regardless of what Pro MMA Fighters train- they all train some form of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu simply because it is such a dominant martial art for submission and ground game.
If you are looking to compete solely in Jiu-Jitsu, you will do well here. Although competition is not mandatory, we believe it to be an excellent vehicle for improving your skills and encourage every to try it. Those that focus and train in a Gi will find that their No-Gi game significantly improves as well.
Women
The Women’s Self Defense program at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Olympia does not just focus solely on grappling and submission techniques but incorporates techniques from a variety of martial arts, including BJJ and Soviet Systema. This class is designed to teach women threat assessment and provide them the basic skills as to how to get away from a stronger, more aggressive attacker- even when pinned to the ground. This six week class does not teach a slew of complex moves that would be easily forgotten, especially in the chaos of an actual attack. It focuses on providing you with basic, universally applicable techniques that are not limited by your physical abilities.
Children
This is a real Jiu-Jitsu class, and not a martial arts class designed to instill a phony sense of self confidence in your child while draining your bank account through a series of contrived promotions. Your child will learn real techniques in an environment that will teach them focus, attention to detail, and respect for themselves and others. The discipline they learn will be borne out of being placed in an environment that requires them to be active, to lean the techniques, and apply them in a competitive yet supportive environment. As with the adult class, this program is designed to have your child gain the physical and developmental skills to become the best athlete and individual possible.
Military / Police
In 2002 the US Army re-wrote the Army Combatives Manual (FM 3-25.150), making Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the core structure of training. Today it is extremely difficult to find any elite military or police organization that does not focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In combat situations opponents may be clothed with collars, sleeves and pants. All of these are points of control that lead to submissions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
