CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Gi Classes
This is the foundation class that teaches both fundamental and advanced aspects of body movement, control, and submissions. This is a great class for both beginners wishing to learn the art and get into shape and advanced practitioners wanting to hone their techniques and prepare for competition. This class is mandatory for those looking to compete in MMA. We will provide you the foundation to advance through all the ranks/belts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The traditional uniform, the Gi, is required for this class. We do supply loaner Gis for those wishing to try out this class!

The techniques presented here follow a very specific curricular structure that requires drill and repetition. Our focus here is not to entertain with flashy youtube moves but to provide you with the realistic, high percentage, functional techniques to become a successful Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and competitor. Students are ability grouped, so that beginning students, for example, would work on a basic technique while more advanced students might work on specific nuances and possibilities of that technique.

These two hours classes usually consist of a warm up/conditioning period, a section focusing on take-downs, a section on groundwork, and a portion dedicated to instructor guided sparring. Sparring is not mandatory and is generally replaced by drilling for newer and injured students. It is, however, highly encouraged. Otherwise, how do we know if the blade cuts if we do not use it?

Gi Optional/No Gi (Submission Grappling) Classes
Generally, this is for students who have an understanding of the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu and desire to learn the application of its techniques without the Gi. Although students in this class are often looking to compete, this class can be used by those students simply looking to attain a higher level of conditioning and skill. This class is mandatory for those looking to compete in MMA.

Students should begin this one hour class warmed up and ready to go. Although most classes focus on positional sparring, there are usually full sparring sessions as part of each class. This is an intense class designed to allow students to test their techniques and prepare for competition. The sparring sessions are instructor guided and do not allow a sharktank/bullying mentality. We are family; we are trying to help each other improve.

Beginning students may attend this class and will drill techniques instead of spar.

Kickboxing & Muay Thai

Combining the  techniques of traditional Muay Thai with the footwork and reemphasized boxing of Dutch kickboxing, this class is excellent for those looking to get in shape as well as learn and improve their striking skills. This class is mandatory for those looking to compete in MMA.

There are two technical drilling classes per week and one sparring class per week. Taught by professional fighter and  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt, Joel Petit.

Mixed Martial Arts
Mixed Martial Arts classes combine the ground techniques and take-downs from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling with the standup skills taught in Kickboxing and Muay-Thai.  When combined, these mixture of skills create an extremely well rounded and technical fighter who is ready to compete successfully in the ring, cage, or in self defense situations.

At Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Olympia we will take you through all the steps necessary to make you a successful fighter: we will provide you the skills, we will hone these to competition sharpness, we will determine when you are ready to enter the cage, we will choose your venues, we will design your periodized conditioning program and fight camps leading up to your fight, and we will be there for every aspect of your fight night, from taping your hands to cornering/coaching you to victory.

Kids Classes
We offer  Kid's/Youth classes that  follow the format of our two hour adult class and are geared for students 7-17 years old.

This one hour class teaches the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with emphasis on self defense, physical fitness, and social skills in a fun and encouraging environment. All of our children's classes emphasize discipline and cooperation and develop self confidence and awareness in our students. Teaching control of an opponent as well as control over oneself is key in this class, as in life.

 Gi is recommended.

As part of this program, kids are also allowed to attend adult Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing classes free of charge.

Women's Self Defense
Traditional Women's self Defense classes are ineffective because they generally require the student to recall a complex series of moves in artificial environments. This six week class, with its incorporation of approaches from a variety of systems, is unique  in that it teaches threat assessment and stresses simple intuitive techniques taught with the goal of disabling and creating space and from a larger, stronger and more aggressive opponent. No complex movements, no athletic ability or physical prowess required. Just bring you!
